Weekly Rides
We have recurring rides almost every day of the week that you can find here and on the calendar. Various Saturday & Sunday rides occur, details are hashed out on the message board. Most rides are casual, and the last thing we want is for a rider to be dropped by the group. Be careful when choosing your first few club rides, especially if this is your first bike club. Newer riders are encouraged to try rides like those on Mondays & Thursdays before comming out for more difficult rides.
Common meeting places:
- Food Lion, Shepherdstown
- Bakerton Store
- Gold's Gym
- Truck Parking Lot (Pooches Ride)
- Post Office (Charles Town, WV)
- Ferry Hill
- Washington High School
- Sharpsburg Cemetery, Sharpsburg, MD
CVCC/PPCC Ride - Mondays
"Leaving from the Shepherdstown Food Lion Parking lot at 6:00 sharp. We stop at all corners and nobody gets left behind. The pace averages 10-12 miles per hour. We usually ride for about 16 miles and avoid the biggest hills and roads with a lot of traffic. The rides will be canceled if the temperature is less than 45F or the roads are wet. This is a combined Cumberland Valley Cycling Club/ Panhandle Pedalers ride. This is a beginner friendly ride. First time riders early in the season may fall into the E classifcation, but generally become C or D riders throughout the year."

Keedysville Loop Ride - Tuesdays (Beginning in May 4th)
The ride will begin at 5:45 p.m. and will be a combined Panhandle Pedalers/Cumberland Valley Cycling Club ride. Meet at the large C&O parking on Canal Rd. There is a climb up Mills Rd and Burnside Bridge Rd, but you don't have to be a mountain goat to go on this ride. We will stop at the corners and no one will be left behind. |
Sharpsburg Ride - Tuesdays (Beginning in May)
This ride is used by PPCC members to prepare themselves for the hilly Civil War Centruy in September. The route has many long climbs and is definitely one of the hardest rides of the week. |
Bakerton Ride - Wednesdays
The Bakerton ride is 17-23 miles of rolling, and in some cases hilly terrain. two groups of riders generally form and leave at different times. C&D riders generally leave 10-15 minutes before A&B riders.. Though they may leave at different times, but depending on the options taken many groups arrive back at the start at nearly the same time. Most riders stop and regroup at most, if not all, of the turns along the way. Even the shortest of options (below) is still a challenging ride. This is not a very beginner friendly ride due to it's length & terrain.
|
Summit Point Ride - Thursdays
This ride was designed to be a ride for beginners to come ride with the club 'veterans' and learn about riding on the roads while building the strength & endurance to eventually come out to other, more challenging, weekly rides. The route is mostly flat and the pace is slower. Riders stop to regroup at every turning point.

Ladies Ride - Fridays
A ride for the ladies to ride at thier own pace without pressure from the guys. Guys if you wear pink you can ride too. |
